What's up Bloggers,

As you know, Jake, the SeaDog and I went to Salem OR and watched the Shark Fin Bill, initiated by Representative Brad Witt, being signed by Oregon's Governor! It makes it illegal to buy or sell shark fins in Oregon!

The law is important because it will end Oregon's role in the massacre of sharks. Hawaii and Washington have joined the fight, too.
Please help by pushing for the same laws where you live!

Yo Friends,

It's me again. Schools out and I'm ready for sun, fun, and the beach!

You're not gonna believe all that's  happened in the last month. Both Oregon and Washington passed anti-shark fin laws. That means people can no longer buy or sell fins to make shark fin soup. As you know, 73 million sharks die every year just to make this soup.  California...it's your turn!

And I got some exciting news on Thursday. I've been invited by Representative Brad Witt to watch Oregon's shark fin bill being signed into law in August!!! I can't believe I get to be there for such an important and historic moment for sharks.
Three states now have shark protection laws (Hawaii, Oregon and Washington). Only  47 more states need to join us!

Oh...and we have new/updated Shark Conservation Zone signs for next year's Fintastic Friday celebration (May 11, 2012).  Post them in your room, school, library...everywhere! I am definitely taking one to Oregon's Capital building. The new law proves Oregon is definitely a "shark conservation zone!"

I'll tell you all about watching the signing of the bill in August.

Feel free to share with me any fun ocean plans you have this summer, too [email]

HAPPY FINTASTIC FRIDAY!!!! It is so great to know we are helping sharks. We have Shark Conservation Zone signs up at all the elementary schools, the middle school, library, grocery store and a few businesses in my hometown. Today we'll celebrate with some games and fun.

If you just found out about Fintastic Friday, don't worry. You don't have to celebrate just one day a year. You can keep helping throughout the year.  Don't forget to tell me how you celebrated the first Fintastic Friday! And, don't forget to mark next Fintastic Friday (May 11, 2012) on your calendar.

Hi there. Have you created a Shark Conservation Zone at your house? Your neighborhood? Your school? Let me know...send a small photo or just email where. (Remember, if you are under 18, you must have your parent's permission and no personal info, just say, "at my school in NH" or wherever.")

If you haven't, no problem. Just print a sign and post it to get into the Zone!

'til next time. See ya,

Today I got to use the school's PA system to tell the whole school, 600 kids, about Fintastic Friday! Afterward a whole bunch of kids from my class asked me about it.

The principal also let me put a two paragraph article about it in the school newsletter. Maybe your principal would let you do that, too!

Hey, what's up everyone? Guess what I did today. I asked my principal if my school could be a Shark Conservation Zone and he said YES and posted the sign at the school entrance!! (Here's the photo!) They put one on the front door and in the library. I also "Zoned" the local Starbucks (with their permission, of course.) I have made a difference!

Tomorrow I'm going to see if the other elementary schools in my home town will post the signs. Has your school become a Shark Conservation Zone yet? It's easy. Print a sign and ask your principal if you can put one up. That way, everyone knows the kids at your school care about sharks. I'll get some photos. And (with your parents permission) send us a photo or description of any Shark Zone sightings.  I'll post them on the blog. 'til next time,

Yello! It's Sam, the SeaPup here and guess what? I went to California for spring break. I went to Scripps Aquarium and saw tons of fish and sharks. They were very cute. Some were swimming around the kelp and some hiding in it. I touched a sea cucumber and some sea anemones. It was so fun.

I also went to the beach and did some body surfing! When I got out a ways I was surrounded by marine life. Dolphins were playing in the surf near by. A harbor seal popped it's head up once when I did and we were so close we scared each other! There were some California sea lions swimming around, too.

'til next time. See ya,
