Scientific name:  Spheniscus mendiculus


Galapagos penguins can be 21 inches tall.  They can weigh 6 pounds.

 

All penguins are only found in the Southern Hemisphere. Galapagos  penguins are only found near the Galapagos Islands near the equator.  These islands are near Ecuador.

 

Galapagos penguins eat a variety fish and squid.

 

Galapagos penguins live right on the Equator. The population is estimated to be about 3,000 birds.
