Hagfish Day Wish Poems
Part of WhaleTimes Neverending WhaleTale 2011

When people see a porpoise, like the vaquita, they wish a lot of things. I suspect when they see a hagfish, they wish a few things, too, mostly that it doesn't get within hugging distance.

To celebrate Hagfish Day, we're asking our friends to write a wish poem about the ocean or about hagfish and the other special animals, vaquita, deep sea octopus...and more.

I can't wait to read your poems!

   Jake, the SeaDog

PS Mark your calendars for the next Hagfish Day on October 17, 2012

I wish I were a hagfish...

I wish I could eat cupcakes
I wish someone would play with me
I wish I had more food
I wish nobody would eat me
I wish I could see the world.
         By Eva, Southlake TX

I wish I was more glamorous
I wish I had more friends
I wish more fish would be my dish
I wish so much U had a bath because I smell like junk
I wish I wish I wish to fly like flying fish so graceful.
By Lydia,
Southlake TX

I wish I was a Vaquita swimming gracefully gliding though the water.
I wish I could go down and sleep, hide, and slink around.
I wish water would wet my skin.
I wish I could meet all of these watery creatures and friends.
I wish I were a Vaquita.

By Ayslinn, Oregon
I wish I produce more slime
I wish I could eat cupcakes
I wish I would be able to have a necklace and a pair of earrings
I wish I could walk
I wish I could kiss my Mom.
          By Sophia, Southlake TX

I wish I were pretty
But I’m glad I’m me
I don’t know why we are so ugly, but I’m glad to be here!
The End!  Yeah!
    By Celine, Southlake, TX

I wish we’re so neat
I wish I were uglier
I wish this is the last wish
I wish this is the last wish
I wish this was the last wish
       By Conor, Southlake TX
I wish I was long and brown
I wish I could squeeze slime on my prey
I wish I had five tentacles
I wish I had no eyes
I wish I was a Hagfish
         By Drew, Southlake TX
I wish I were prettier
I wish I did not make goop
I wish I was a person
I wish I had a dog
I wish I was not so ugly
    By Tatum, Southlake, TX
I wish to be fun
I wish to have a friend
I wish to be cute
I wish to be good
I wish to play games
        By Grace W., Southlake TX
I wish I was a vaquita gliding through the sea
I wish I could fall asleep watching the sunset over the ocean
I wish I was body surfing the waves with my friends
I wish everyone discovers the beautiful little vaquitas
                By Jake, the SeaDog

I wish I were a pair of ragged claws scuttling across the floors of silent seas
I wish I were lovely as a starfish whose tube feet march in unison towards an item of prey
I wish that I were something different, much more exquisite than what I am everyday
I wish I had a day devoted to acknowledging my place in the universe and that I were a creature made to please
I wish that you could see the beauty in all that is me.
