Ribbon seal Highlights:

Ribbon seals are found in the Bering, Chukchi and Okhotsk seas. Sometimes they're found further south near the Aleutian Islands.

On the ice, they're pretty darn fast. They can scoot across the ice as fast as a person can run. You won't find a ribbon seal on land, or on moving ice near shore. You might find them on a nice thick slab of ice, though. This is one reason little is known about these seals.

Pups are born with a lovely thick white fur coat. They keep the coat for about five weeks, than a short grayish coat replaces the baby fur. Adults have brown to black fur, with thick white bands, or ribbons around the neck, each flipper, and waist.

Pups are born sometime between April to May. They nurse for about 4 weeks, than mom leaves forever, so they're on their own.
