About Ask Jake, the SeaDog

This unique interactive WhaleTimes component is designed to help students learn more about their favorite ocean animal. Find out more.  by answering questions inspired by classroom projects, documentaries, a great book, or even a visit to the ocean. After students have begun, or nearly completed research for a project, they can ask Jake a question or two to fill in gaps of information or clarify confusing data. Students receive a one-time personal reply from Jake, the SeaDog.

Program Nuts and bolts:

GRADES:

Preschool to adult

TOPICS:

WhaleTimes experts can answer questions about most ocean animals.

FEE:

FREE. WhaleTimes is a non-profit organization. Our experts volunteer their time to answer student's questions.

How to use: Some teachers submit all the questions in one e-mail. Others have each student send one question. Others encourage students to visit WhaleTimes Fishin’ for Facts pages and to ask Jake a question to help them with reports. Other Ideas: English Second Language students or those learning to use e-mail/Internet benefit from sending a message and receiving a reply.

Nuts and bolts: Student may e-mail from school or from home (with parent’s permission). Jake answers questions as quickly as possible in the order they are received. Our policy: Due to the popularity of this page, we can only answer a couple questions per student. If the question is too in-depth for a quick e-mail response (more common with high school students) we redirect them to their teacher, an appropriate webpage, or their local library to find the answer. We do not do student’s research, so if the question sounds like the teacher’s homework assignment, we direct them to our Fishin’ for Facts pages or the library, encouraging them to return after they’ve really dived into the project. We reply to that e-mail only once. When students submit questions, to personalize our response, we prefer to get their first name, grade, and town/state. However, this information is not required for us to respond. We do not share the information with anyone. WhaleTimes does NOT compile any sort of mailing list from the Jake, the SeaDog submissions. WhaleTimes, Inc. retains all copyrights to the questions and answers. For more information please review our Privacy Policy.
