TEN ways to use a WhaleTimes Mini-poster

WhaleTimes mini-posters can be used to introduce a topic, as a color sheet, and more. For example, if you use the river dolphin mini-poster your classroom, you could...

  1. Write a fun story with a unique writing prompt. Here are some examples:

"Dear Bottlenose dolphin….from [add name] an Amazon river dolphin”

It is awesome to be pink because…

I think my friend’s teacher is an (Amazon river dolphin, piranha…) because…

    Piranhas make great classmates because…

Describe a day in the life of an Amazon river dolphin

  2. Finish this poem: Roses are red, river dolphins are pink....
  3. Write a mask poem about a river dolphin or other rainforest creature.
  4. Use the poster to circle adjectives, nouns, or other parts of speech.
  5. Compare and contrast Amazon river dolphins with bottlenose dolphins using a Venn diagram. How about gray whales? Or blue sharks?
  6. Graph length and weight, and/or diving depth and breath holding times of 5 different whales. (Check out WhaleTimes Fishin’ for Facts pages.)
  7. Discover how many pencils would it take to be the same length as an Amazon river dolphin? How many classmates?
  8. Draw or use string to create a fun food web for the Amazon river dolphin and how it fits into the rainforest ecosystem.
  9. Compare and contrast the Amazon River and the Mississippi River, ecosystem, and or cultures that live along the shores.
  10. Have fun coloring!
